A Tale of Errors and Secrets
codes
Abstract
Coding theory and cryptography represent two sides of the same information-theoretic coin. We will show how the quest to manage noise and the need to secure data have driven each other’s progress: from their common foundations to their modern applications.
Notes
Coding theory is an extremely important branch of mathematics. Despite its relevance, graduate and undergraduate mathematics courses often ignore it. Politecnico di Torino is no exception. This talk was first held there as part of a seminar for a graduate students, to showcase what coding theory actually is.
